Vijay Uikey dropped out of school early & took to Gond because he had a natural flair for it. He comes from a family of traditional Gond artists who had turned to various professions to sustain themselves.
The Asian Heritage Foundation took interest in his work & he trained with Rajeev Sethi where his style evolved & stories got more narrative.
